Korea (with Melika)

After 7 years, i was finally visiting Korea again! This was the first time i visited during summer though, as the previous 4 trips were either spring or autumn. Since this was my 5th time here, i tried to plan places that i haven’t been to, and this has proved not a difficult task at all, cos’ Korea is so big! This close to one month trip simply didn’t seem to be enough to cover all places that i wanted to go, but nevermind, there is always a next time, maybe i can challenge their winter period then πŸ™‚

11th May 2016:

Took the overnight Korean Air, and touched down Incheon airport at 9am. Proceeded immediately to Melika’s apartment by taking airport limo bus 6011 to Gyeongbokgung, then taxi. Melika is my German friend whom we know each other 10 years back when we were studying Korean language in Yonsei University Korean Language Institute. She is now married with a son, Leo, and she was here with him and her mother for a 3-week vacation. They were staying in their Korean friend’s house, and she invited me to stay with them for 2 days before they leave Korea.

After taking a rest, we took a cab to Insadong (인사동) for shopping.

Then we took a stroll to a nearby temple, Jogyesa (쑰계사). The temple was decorated with beautiful colorful lanterns for the Buddha’s birthday the coming weekend.

After taking a teabreak, not knowing where to go, we approached the Tourist Information Centre at Insadong, who suggested we visit the nearby Bukchon Hanok Village (λΆμ΄Œν•œμ˜₯λ§ˆμ„), and so we went. It turned out to be a residential area with hundreds of traditional houses, called Hanok. It was a nice walk, except some up slopes which could be challenging when you were pushing a baby stroller.

12th May 2016:

We went to Kyobo bookstore at Gwanghwamun today. We tried contacting our Vietnamese classmate who is currently staying in Korea, but too bad he just went back to Vietnam the day before.. so sad 😦

Melika bought a Korea Tourism stamp album book from the post office, which is really nice.

Our lunch at Kyobo, reminiscing the times when we used to have lunch in the canteen at Yonsei University.

And so we decided to go to Yonsei University in the afternoon πŸ™‚

There are so many changes over the 10 years, which include the underground passage that links to the subway station.

Then we takeaway some coffee and bread from the Paris Baguette in the campus and enjoyed them under the sun πŸ™‚

After some shopping in Sinchon, we had Gosoo Dakgalbi (with cheese) for dinner.. . delicious!

13th May 2016:

Today, we decided to just have a stroll nearby the apartment. We had lunch near Sangmyung University before we went back, and since Melika had to pack for her next day flight back to Germany, i bid farewell to her and her family, and took a taxi to my guesthouse near Dongdaemum.

I was happy with this Glory Inn, which is not only near the subway stations, but also directly opposite the airport limo bus stop. The room is clean and tidy and the size is just right, at least for me πŸ™‚

Went out exploring the Dongdaemum area in the night and had some tteokbokki and kimbap for dinner.
